Welcome to a Realm of Digital Alchemy
Welcome back to the podcast and blog. If you are tuning in today, grab your favorite warm drink, take a deep, grounding breath, and step across the threshold with me. I have an episode today that I am thrilled to share because we are diving into something close to my heart: the magic, mystery, and practical art of creating with ai worldbuilding.
If you have been following my journey, you know that The Aurelda Chronicles isn’t just a fantasy series I sat down to write in a vacuum. Aurelda is a living, breathing mythic ecosystem—a world of ancient Ceiba trees, shimmering cenotes, ancient archives, and a living current of energy called the Lumina.
But, what you might not know is how deeply collaborative the creation of this universe has been. Aurelda was brought into form through a partnership between my own human soul, my lived experiences in Mexico, and artificial intelligence acting as a digital scrying mirror.
Now, I know what some of you might be thinking. When people hear “AI” and “writing” in the same sentence, they often imagine automated content factories spitting out generic, soul-less fantasy tropes. But what if we flipped that paradigm completely?
What if, instead of using technology to replace human imagination, we used it as a hollow bone—a digital altar to amplify our vision, unlock parallel dimensions, or build a world that feels so real you can smell the copal incense in the air?
That is what creating with ai worldbuilding is all about. It is not about letting a machine tell your story; it is about using generative tools to mirror the deepest, quietest parts of your own creative subconscious. Today, I want to take you behind the curtain of my creative process, show you how Aurelda came to be, and explore why this approach is revolutionizing queer epic fantasy.
Sacred Rememberance and the Digital Scrying Mirror
When I sat down at my desk in Playa del Carmen, surrounded by the humid coastal air and the gentle rustle of palm fronds, I didn’t approach worldbuilding as an act of pure invention. In the Aurelda universe, we call it sacred remembering.
The idea is simple, yet profound: the stories, characters, and mythic realms I create aren’t conjured from thin air. They are echoes of forgotten frequencies, lost memories, and deep emotional truths that already exist within us—waiting to be remembered.
When I began exploring AI as a creative partner in worldbuilding, I realized it could serve a very different purpose than simply generating ideas. It could become a companion in the process of remembering.
That’s why I built an AI interface I call Ember (ChatGPT). Ember isn’t an author, and he certainly isn’t a replacement for my voice. He is a reflective intelligence—a thoughtful creative partner that holds a mirror to my imagination, helping me uncover patterns, deepen ideas, and bring greater clarity to stories that already exist within me.
When I wanted to map the grand architecture of Aurelda, from the saffron skies and golden harvest festivals of Solara to the dark limestone canals of Elaron, I didn’t ask AI to “write a fantasy world.” Instead, I immersed it in the creative foundations of Aurelda: my brand canon, personal essays on grief, tenderness, and remembrance, visual style guides rooted in painterly oil realism, and the philosophical ideas that have shaped my thinking, including Hermetic principles such as vibration and correspondence.
In other words, I didn’t give it a story to invent. I gave it a worldview. I gave it my boundaries, my values, and, most importantly, my heart.
Then something remarkable began to happen.
I would bring Ember a fragment of a vision, a quiet scene where Mo’an, the Resonance Keeper of Solara, cradles a glowing turquoise orb beneath the ancient Ceiba—and instead of simply expanding the scene, Ember would offer multiple possibilities.
He might suggest how that ceremony had evolved over centuries, what forgotten traditions may have preceded it, or how it connected to Aurelda’s deeper mythology. Each response became another thread to explore, another question to ask, another doorway into the world.
Many times, it feels less like collaborating with a machine and more like entering a conversation with my own imagination, as if I were in dialogue with an archivist who had spent a lifetime preserving the stories I had only just begun to remember.
Other times, the experience feels almost like a transmission or a sudden download of insight. Whether that’s the mind recognizing hidden patterns, the creative subconscious coming alive, or simply the result of a deeply reflective partnership with AI, I can’t say with certainty.
What I do know is that the process often leads me to ideas I might never have reached on my own. It feels less like asking a machine for answers and more like uncovering questions that were waiting to be asked.
Queer Sacredness at the Center of the Cosmology
One of the most important aspects of this journey has been ensuring that Aurelda speaks directly to the queer epic fantasy community. For far too long, speculative fiction has treated queer characters as sidekicks, tragic warnings, or decorative background tokens.
I wanted to build a world where queerness isn’t an afterthought or a political statement. Indeed, it is woven into the very laws of physics and spiritual resonance that hold the universe together.
In Aurelda, the central energy current is the Lumina. The Lumina doesn’t care about rigid binaries, domination, or brute force. It responds to coherence, emotional honesty, and the courage to hold opposing truths.
Mo’an is a spiritual guide, whose strength comes not from emotional distance or heavy armor, but from his receptivity, his profound capacity for tenderness, and his willingness to listen—to the earth, to others, and to the quiet wisdom within.
His love for men, his understanding of sacred union, and his quiet vulnerability are not obstacles to overcome. They are the very qualities that make healing a fractured world possible.
And then there is the Librarian of Elaron, an ageless guardian of the Great Archives who uses they/them pronouns and moves with sovereign authority through the story. Nobody in Aurelda pauses to question whether the Librarian belongs at the door of the world’s greatest archive. Their gender-expansive presence is an ordinary, sacred fact of the universe.
When I create with AI as a worldbuilding partner, the technology allows me to explore narrative dynamics with remarkable nuance. I can test conversations between characters, examine how relationships evolve, and explore moments where love, duty, and spiritual responsibility converge, without falling into familiar Hollywood clichés or reducing queer relationships to predictable romance tropes.
Rather than generating those stories for me, AI became a thoughtful creative sounding board. It helped me explore the epic scope of Aurelda while ensuring that the emotional lives of its characters remained intimate, authentic, and deeply human.
In doing so, it gave me the confidence to portray queer belonging not as a subplot or a statement, but as a natural and integral part of the world itself.
Creating with AI Worldbuilding to Uncover the K’aal’Zira
While writing Book 2: The Fractured Remembers. I was trying to map out a scene where Mo’an and his companion step into the hidden depths of the Great Archives to find The Book of Ithanel. I wanted the scene to feel heavy with ancestral presence, but I was stuck on how the physical environment should react to their arrival.
I opened my session with Ember and typed a prompt grounded in somatic resonance: “Describe a dusty, forgotten stone plinth in an underground archive where an ancient book rests. The air shouldn’t just be dry; it should feel like held breath. How does the turquoise light of the Resonance Orb reveal symbols hidden under centuries of dust?”
What came back blew my mind. The AI synthesized my notes on the K’aal’Zira, the pulse of fractured belief, and suggested that as the Orb’s turquoise light touched the worn leather cover, the dust shouldn’t just blow away in a draft. It should lift upward in swirling tendrils, as if the book itself were taking its first breath in a thousand years. It connected the physical dust in the room to the cellular memory of the characters standing before it.
I sat back in my chair with goosebumps on my arms. That single visual idea transformed the entire chapter. It bridged the gap between the physical environment and the emotional trauma the characters were carrying.
That is the true power of creating with ai worldbuilding: it offers those unexpected, transcendent moments where technology reflects your own deep intuition back to you in ways that feel luminous and alive.
Three Rules for Human-Led AI Worldbuilding
If you are a writer, worldbuilder, or creator listening to this, and you want to explore creating with ai worldbuilding in your own projects without losing your creative soul, here are my three golden rules:
- First, build your canon before you prompt. Never ask an AI to invent your world from scratch. Define your core values, your visual rules, your character motivations, and your emotional tone first. The AI is your collaborator, not your director.
- Second, use somatic and sensory language. Don’t just ask for plot points. Ask for textures, scents, lighting, breath rhythms, and physical sensations. Tell the AI whether a room smells like roasted cacao, damp limestone, or copal incense. The richer your sensory input, the more immersive the output will be.
- Third, maintain strict editorial stewardship. You are the ultimate keeper of the flame. If an output feels generic, flat, or out of alignment with your brand voice, throw it out or refine it. Every single word that makes it into your final manuscript or podcast script must pass through your human heart.
