Queer Community Living in the Shadow of Authoritarian Decay
In recent years, I’ve felt a creeping darkness settle into our world. The COVID-19 pandemic didn’t just upend daily life—it exposed deeper fault lines. Authoritarianism, already gaining ground globally, seemed to tighten its grip while we were all too distracted or afraid to stop it. I saw it unfold not as a headline, but in the real lives of friends, family, and strangers. Power became concentrated, liberties blurred, and slowly, almost quietly, the fabric of trust began to tear.
This authoritarian decay isn’t an abstract concept to me. I’ve seen the way it seeps into our homes and relationships. Maybe you have too. Families torn apart over “the rules.” Friendships that couldn’t survive the politicization of masks, mandates, and misinformation. I read a 2021 survey saying nearly 40% of Americans cut ties with loved ones over pandemic disagreements—and I wasn’t surprised. I lived it. And I know I’m not alone.
The Post-COVID Crisis of Belonging

The pandemic didn’t just isolate us physically—it fragmented our sense of belonging. As someone who values ritual, connection, and spiritual depth, I felt the ache of disconnection in my bones. Holidays turned into silent rooms. Hugs became fears. Gatherings became screens. I lost time. I lost people. Maybe you did too.
A 2021 national survey showed 1 in 4 people felt less close to their families than before the pandemic. That number hit me hard. Because beyond the virus, what I saw spreading was a quiet epidemic of estrangement. Belonging—true, soul-level belonging—felt further away than ever.
And still, I knew this wasn’t the end of the story.
Queer Community Consciousness Awakening Beneath the Ruins

Yet, in the midst of this heavy atmosphere, a quiet truth emerged: crisis often sparks reflection. Stripped of our routines and certainties, we were confronted with big questions. What truly matters in life? Where can we find hope when the world feels so dark? It’s no coincidence that during the pandemic, interest in mindfulness, meditation, and spirituality surged.
One study even found that people who contracted COVID-19 were more likely to start or increase practices like mindfulness and prayer as part of coping. Facing mortality and upheaval, countless individuals turned inward, seeking solace and strength in faith, spirituality, or personal growth. When external structures fall into chaos or control, the human spirit instinctively searches for an inner anchor.
This period has been, for many, a forced spiritual retreat of sorts – a time to awaken to what we’ve neglected. Universal human themes came roaring to the forefront: the desire for purpose, the hunger for connection, the need to feel that our struggles mean something. In a world that suddenly felt devoid of stability, people sought a deeper truth or narrative to make sense of the senseless.
We saw parents spending more time teaching their kids life values, professionals contemplating more meaningful career paths, and individuals picking up forgotten creative or spiritual hobbies. Google searches for terms like “how to pray” or “spiritual help” jumped globally. Even secular folks found themselves lit by a spiritual curiosity, whether through virtual yoga sessions, nature walks, or journaling their souls out.
In other words, while authoritarian decay and social fragmentation threatened to steal our agency, a counterforce began growing quietly in parallel: a yearning to reclaim our personal power and connectedness on a soulful level. People don’t want to live in fear and division. Deep down, we crave stories of hope, we crave communities of understanding, and we crave an awakening that reminds us of our shared humanity. This universal longing set the stage for something new to emerge – a response that speaks to both the pain and the hope of this moment.
From Decay to Dawn: The Birth of Aurelda, a Queer Spiritual Community

Amid the turmoil, a beacon of creativity and healing has appeared in an unexpected form. It’s called Aurelda, and it was born as a response to the very challenges we’ve been discussing. If the world felt like it was losing its magic and meaning, Aurelda set out to restore them in a bold and imaginative way.
At first glance, Aurelda is a mythic fantasy story – the kind of rich, otherworldly tale you might escape into to forget real life for a while. But look closer, and it becomes clear that Aurelda is much more than escapism. It’s a modern spiritual journey disguised as an epic adventure, a creative answer to the crisis of belonging and purpose.
Aurelda came to me. Not as a book, Not even as a story, but as a memory. A vision.
Aurelda wasn’t just an idea—it was a response. A living answer to authoritarian decay and spiritual fragmentation. It was the world I needed, and the one I believed others were longing for too. A place where myth and breath, queerness and sacredness, memory and imagination could coexist without contradiction.
I poured everything into it. Grief. Love. Longing. And breath—always breath. I wrote The Aurelda Chronicles not to escape this world, but to heal it. To mirror back a path of remembrance for those of us who’ve felt exiled from both our bodies and our communities.
What is Aurelda? A Queer Hero’s Journey of Sacred Remembrance for Spiritual Awakening
Aurelda is a mythic realm, yes. But it is also deeply queer, deeply spiritual, and deeply human.
In Aurelda, the sacred energy that connects all things—the Lumina—has fractured. And it is through the journey of a young, queer soul named Mo’an that the world begins to heal. Mo’an isn’t a hero in the traditional sense. He’s not here to conquer. He’s here to remember. And through him, I remembered myself.
I wrote Mo’an as a mirror for anyone who has ever felt like they don’t belong. Anyone who’s been told their queerness makes them less holy. Anyone who’s ever felt the weight of being too much or not enough in a world of control.
Mo’an’s story is our story. One of sacred return. One of queer community consciousness for resisting authoritarianism not with violence, but with remembrance.
The Aurelda Inner Circle: A Sanctuary for the Spirit
As Aurelda’s world took shape, something unexpected happened. People began to gather. Not just readers—seekers. Those who resonated with the transmission underneath the narrative. Those who didn’t just want a book, but a belonging. That’s when I created the Aurelda Inner Circle.
It’s not a fan club. It’s not a marketing funnel. It’s a sanctuary—a place where myth meets practice. Where breathwork, spiritual awakening, queer empowerment, and sacred storytelling come together in community. A place for those of us reclaiming our voice, our power, and our divinity in a world that often tries to silence it.
Why This Matters Now, More than Ever
We are living in a world that rewards disconnection and punishes difference. We are feeling the psychic aftershocks of collective trauma. And yes, authoritarian decay continues to rise, quietly rebranding itself as order, tradition, and safety. But beneath that surface, there is a deeper current. A remembering. A reweaving.
I believe that queer community consciousness can be a means of resisting authoritarianism. Not just a political idea, but a spiritual necessity. It means creating mythic spaces where we can reimagine what power looks like. It means choosing breath over panic, presence over control, story over silence. Aurelda is my offering to that remembering.
And if your heart is aching for something sacred, something real, something that sees you—not just as a consumer or a citizen, but as a soul—then maybe it’s for you too.
